The discovery of oil in the state, especially in the northeast, has been imperative to the modern development of Oklahoma. Oklahoma oil’s significance to the early twentieth century economy is particularly pronounced in Tulsa, whose lavish art deco architecture accentuates the pomp and wealth of early oil discovery.
